Sports
Participation and enjoyment form a focal part of the school’s sporting activities and extra mural line-up. Learners are encouraged to participate in various extra curricular activities including soccer, cricket, netball, hockey, swimming, karate and ballet, with qualified coaches assisting the teachers in these activities.
At GJPS, everyone gets a turn to participate and play in the team. Of course, competing well and winning is often important to the children – however, our focus as educators is on supporting the children and keeping the spotlight on participation, fun and building self esteem.
GJPS is a place of many ‘firsts’. Over the years, our pupils have excelled in many sports and have done our little school proud. We have introduced Hockey, Soccer, Netball and Cricket to the grade one pupils, for the first time, this year. When they play matches in grade two, they are now ready to compete having more skills attained in grade one and understanding the rules more readily. Our motto of ‘Always do your best’ is the driving force in all our sports and the idea of good sportsmanship is taught.

Ballet
In 2009, a little ballet studio was birthed at Glenwood Junior Primary School. Its name is Ballet South Academy of Dance.
There are still pupils in this Ballet School from the very first grade 00 class. Mrs Candice Arnold, assisted by Mrs Wessels, nurtured many girls of GJPS who were able to experience the love of Ballet. Many of the learners, throughout the years, did their American Performance Award Exams and were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. The girls were afforded the opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual dance show each year. The GJPS girls were also well equipped to dance in our many school plays and productions.
This incredible art form teaches discipline, grace and poise. The girls enjoys their lessons each week and many continue their dance careers many years after leaving Glenwood Junior.
