As we look over old photographs of our past pupils, plays and musicals have always been a big part of the school curriculum. Over ten years ago, Mr Evan Cullum joined our staff and our music department flourished under his guidance. He revolutionized our Special Person’s Assemblies and the concept of IDOLS was birthed. Learners got to showcase their talents and so did the teachers! In 2012, Mr Cullum produced a full-length play.

Sadly, Mr Cullum left our staff at the end of 2012. He handed over the reigns to Mr Martin Sigamoney. Mr Sigamoney’s time with us was very short but very sweet. Our choir reached new heights and graced numerous high profile events including Vivian Reddy’s birthday celebration, the Organ Donor Foundation Games opening ceremony and the Indian Film Awards where they sang with previous SA Idols winner, Khaya. 2014 brought us our current music teacher, Mr Ryan Joshua. Our choir and music department, strong as ever, recently sang with Karen Van Pletsen and the Durban Gospel Choir.

It’s important for our learners to know that each and every one of them is special and unique – and talented in their own way. We are a happy school where singing and music form a fundamental part of the way in which we enjoy school life. Singing breaks down barriers and allows children to express themselves freely. For those youngsters who may feel shy or intimidated by the daunting task of starting school life, singing often releases them and gives them a confidence they can then carry with them into all the other areas of their young lives.

Our pupils have always astounded us with their singing ability and we are so proud of what these young stars have achieved.
